The Bruce Odland Big Band at Singa City, Singapore, 1987. L-R: Glen Nitta, Fred Hess, Ron Miles, Mark Fuller (on drums behind Ron), Bruce Odland wheeling me around on the cart, Mark McCoin, Gail Springer. We were in Singapore for a week as part of a "Sister Cities cultural exchange" and played several shows at all sorts of places...this one was in a huge glitzy shopping mall. I was wireless in those days and would often get off the stage and wander around while playing. Here Bruce and I take advantage of materials at hand. Oh yes, and it's another of my stylish stage outfits...this one made with thriftshop afghans.

The "audience" at this gig consisted of well-off shoppers who happened to pass by...it's safe to say that they truly didn't know what to make of us...they'd stop and stare for a minute or two at a good safe distance of 30 yards or so, then continuing shopping. I vividly recall during one of our softer, weirder tunes we became aware of unearthly, reverby sounds emanating apparently from the beyond: it turned out to be some sort of funeral procession marching along one of the upper levels of the mall.
