This is at Walabis in Denver, I'll guess 1981 or 82. Playing my cheap Epiphone guitar through my Kustom 250. I'd modified the guitar to include a telephone mouthpiece mic (you can just see it there between the neck and bridge pickups) and a "head" pickup above the first fret. It was a great sounding guitar, don't actually recall what ever became of it.
The group was called Zero, the other members were Avec DuBois on keyboards, John Sheehan on bass, Robert Gann on guitar and voice. Those are my drums and cymbals in the forground as well, Robert Gann and I would play this kit simultaneously whilst standing. That triangular cymbal ended up that way because my brother David and I used to abuse cymbals in various ways; throw them off cliffs, freeze them in ponds over the winter, drag them behind cars, soak them in caustic substances, etc etc etc, just to see what they would sound like afterward. (Better, or at least funnier, usually.)
Something I specifically recall about this gig is that John Sheehan remarked upon my obvious poverty by noting my socks: they consisted of the rest of my other shirt, torn up and held in place with rubber bands which I'd find on the sidewalk. I was always a practical sort. Also notice the fine decor of Walabis...I think they'd just re-done that ceiling, don't you?
