Playing with Bob Drake's Cabinet of Curiosities at the Mercury Cafe, Denver Colorado, January 2008. This would be during the song "Rainy". Though the violin (borrowed for this show from my old pal Mike Johnson) might look nice and shiny, I promise it sounded awful....just the way I like it...when I played it! See that plectrum in my mouth? Those are my favorite plectrums in the universe for both guitar and bass (Schaller "medium heavy" 0039) but I'd rarely see them in shops. Usually whenever you find something like a plectrum you really like, they immediately stop making them, so I always tried to horde as many as I could find. I even enquired about ordering them in bulk directly from Schaller but they never wrote back. A few years ago I recorded a band called Zeno Tornado and the Boney Google Brothers. I mentioned my plectrum plight to Sasha, the very nice and excellent banjoist, and he knew a guy at a music shop and was able to get me hundreds of them. I honestly think I have enough to last the rest of my life!
